The Haifa Art Museum is situated in the Hadar neighborhood and it is one of the three largest art museums in Israel. It focuses on the contemporary Israeli and international tendencies in art. The Haifa Art Museum features more than 7000 items of contemporary art and graphics. You can enjoy different exhibitions and a rich variety of interesting activities for all ages.
The Haifa Museum of Art was founded in 1951 in honor of an exhibition of Marc Chagall works. Since 1977, the museum has been housed in its present building, which is situated in the Hadar district of Haifa. This is a unique stone edifice, originally built as a school in the 1930s. It was then declared a building to be preserved. The historic significance of the building stems from its geographical position at the edge of Wadi Nisnas, a central focal point of local culture, which acts as a linchpin for the three neighborhoods -the Jewish, Muslim and Christian – which meet at this site. The location of the museum therefore enables it to act as a multi-cultural and intercultural bridge, reflecting Haifa’s special urban and communal wellsprings.
